VALENTINA

“I had a little help,” she muttered as he escorted her into the resort. “Carrie covered my getaway.”

“I know.” He patted her hand and walked them through the atrium instead of stopping at the front desk. “She stomped all over my ego then too. The point is, you didn’t wait for something to force you into a decision like I did, and I admire the hell out of you for it.”

“Um…thanks.”

Although she still wished they’d both wised up way sooner than they had, it was over and done. The only option was to move forward.

Despite wanting to visit so badly, her trepidation grew as they passed the restaurant and approached the steel door leading into the dungeon. Telling herself she was being ridiculous; she shook it off and squared her shoulders.

Nobody would touch her without her permission. Club Apocalypse was a safe place for everyone, and nothing happened without willing consent, which was rigidly enforced. It wasn’t unheard of for dungeon monitors to check scenes and stop them if they felt an activity was unsafe.

It was truly the one place in the universe where she knew she’d be protected. Well, logically she knew it. Her lizard brain was still side-eying the entire thing.

Using a keycard, Ian unlocked the door and held it for her. “After you.”

She took a deep breath and imagined herself riding Sugar as she tried to find her center.

Beautiful dress: check. Makeup and hair on point: check. Big steel balls…

Check?

“You’ve got this, Val,” Ian murmured, making her hide a flinch. “It’s going to be okay, but we can leave right now if you’re not feeling it.”

“No. I…” Firming her determination, she strode through the door. “Let’s do this thing.”

When she passed through the red velvet curtain, her footsteps stalled, then stopped. Decked out in leather fetish wear, the Horsemen surrounded the main stage. They had their wives too, all dressed in yoga shorts and tank tops.

Even Kendra, who Val had never seen in anything but tailored suits and gorgeous shoes, was there, barefoot and with her sandy blonde hair pulled into a ponytail.

There was a two-top centered diagonally in front of the stage, complete with snowy linen and tableware, along with a single candle and a budding rose in a vase.

Carrie squealed and evaded Ryan’s outstretched hand before rushing across the dungeon to give Val a rib-crushing hug. “Welcome home! God, I missed you! And wow, you look fantastic! I love your hair!”

“Missed you too.” Tears pricked her eyes as she returned Carrie’s hug. She blinked and pulled back, then smiled. “What’s all this?”

“It’s a command performance,” Olivia said, approaching to give Val a soft kiss on her cheek. “The Horsemen command, ergo we perform.”

“But…the dungeon is closed on Sunday.”

“It’s a friends and family occasion,” Kendra replied, giving Val a quick hug. “So glad to have you home.”

More tears burned her eyes and sniffed them back. Fuck’s sake. They were going to make her bawl in public if she wasn’t careful.

“Aye, I get to be a dolly too.
